I'm not gonna say for sure it's the board but I don't know what else it could be since the OS and RAM is fine. That's Windows for you. After a few quick tests, it truly could be just about anything (CMOS/BIOS, demon possession etc...) If you swap the board you may well save yourself a lot of pain and Player!
Reminds me of when I was in college English! To run chkdsk, open Computer/My Computer and right-click the disk that you want to scan.
