I yanked the HD from the box and put it into a working XP machine and showed the same stuff in "Explorer"; however, it shows the correct info in Disk Manager DISKPART> attributes disk Current Read-only State : No Read-only : No Boot Disk : No Pagefile Disk : No Hibernation File Disk : No Crashdump Disk : No Clustered Disk : Windows did not let me use the drive. Nothing worked.

Register now Not a member yet? I wanted to copy stuff from the old 'puter hard dive so I used an external drive patch cord. It is visible in the disk manager. Do I initialize it first before I run a data recovery tool?

I tried above solutions provided here. Win 8 is installed on "C". I was then able to see it in My Computer. But I had to go into safe mode first.

I used a shorter USB cable and there was the drive! NOT C or D or something that is in normal use, something else. 9 Windows will then pop up and register your external HDD just like when you plug in your hope this helps you. Does this mean my drives are done?

I did however get it to work by using "delete volume" in the disk manager then reactivating the volume. Jacqui Best March 20, 2014 12:27 pm Reply # No if the drive is not showing up in windows re loading windows will not fix the problem.
