Reply Vernon O April 22, 2014 at 1:43 am Just wondering.... The free version of MBAM is good but the paid version does automatic updates, has full time protection, and will play well with an AV. Anyone with a brain can tell from my writing above that I use AV (MSE) -- and I also regularly test MSE with Malwarebytes and Kaspersky! Is Microsoft Security Essentials Good For Windows 7
A lot of malware is delivered via compromised, legitimate sites, and by online ads. I can't really get rid of Windows Defender, so I keep it. Microsoft has previously admitted that the software should only be used as "baseline" protection, but its website makes no mention of this, instead claiming to be a "comprehensive" package. While Security Essentials was previously very good at letting legitimate software run, it wasn't much cop at protecting your PC.
- I run a daily quick scan with MSE and - along with those other programs - have yet to get myself into any serious trouble.

I have been using only MSE/Windows Defender and Windows Firewall for the better part of 3 years now without a single problem. Avira's Antivirus Pro 2015, F-Secure Internet Security 2015 and Trend Micro Internet Security 2015 were all awarded the company's seal of approval. I personally think it's really good. Sure, no AV/AM software is perfect, but I think if you spend enough time with tests and real world experience, it's pretty clear there are some top shelf products, and the Microsoft has always stopped supporting operating systems after 10 years. April 11, 2014 at 9:55 pm I haven't use any anti virus software on my Windows 7 PC for 4 years, and continuing with Windows 8. Is Microsoft Security Essentials Safe If I could have only one security program on my computer (thank God I don't!), it would be Avast.

I'm not sure if I'm going to use Microsoft Security Essentials anymore. There program has always, ALWAYS, out performed any free or paid for Anti Virus out there. visiting all kinds of websites... They just click yes to every UAC popup without reading the publisher.

No bad problems. Any antivirus suite worth selling for more than a few bucks offers anti-phishing tools that can spot suspicious URLs and website, but MSE offers no such feature.
Reply Davin Peterson April 11, 2014 at 2:15 pm I agree that MSE is just a basic antivirus just like the firewall that came with Windows is basic and so you A lot of malware is delivered via compromised, legitimate sites, and by online ads. It's a bug with OpenSSL so not anti-virus program could fix this. MSE was a breath of fresh air -- both in its interface and its speedy performance.

I was pleased to find that sweet spot of set-it-and-forget-it protection combined with substantially above-average test results (across AV-test as well as AV-comparatives). All the above do locate problems/potential problems for me, and my systems continue to work. BAH...
