Paul December 22, 2016 Reply Terrific! Sorry There was an error emailing this page. ERRORS AND OMISSIONS ARE CONSISTENT WITH INTENT. Installing a small number of updates at a time prevented this from happening on the same computer.

Note that after skipping step 12 (the optional step), the first check for updates still took about 15 minutes to complete -- which is longer than it used to take in Windows 7 Won't Update After Fresh Install I can confirm this method worked. It did still use a bit of CPU but it wasn't the wuauserv.exe process...it was (I think) TrustedInstaller.exe and makecab.exe so at least it appeared something was happening. When you're done with the wizard, Windows will reboot.

Thank you! My last successful update before the fix was 1/2016. I don't know if the fact the OS language wasn't American/English has to do with this the fact all listed tries didn't solve the problem...
